Sunset Motel: The Disappearance of Danica Childs

Written by: Kenzie Desrosiers

On Dec 21, 2007, Danica Childs was on the phone with her mother, Dianne Zoro, making plans to go Christmas shopping.

After getting off the phone, Dianne realized she had forgot to tell her something. However, the phone went straight to voicemail. Initially, Dianne was not concerned since Danica told her that her phone was dying. Danica has never been seen or heard from since.

Hours later, Dianne reported her daughter missing, but authorities believed she was a runaway.

Dianne fears her daughter was a victim of sex trafficking. According to friends, Danica had been seen at the Sunset Motel in Kent, Washington, seven miles from her home, where investigators found her jacket, purse, and cellphone in one of the rooms.

At the time of her disappearance, Danica had been struggling with school and work, but her mother says she was turning things around.

Dianne figured out the voicemail password to Danica’s phone. A series of heartbreaking messages make it clear she was being exploited.

During bus rides to college, Danica met another student who turned out to be a pimp. Danica would go on to date this boy.

In 2015, a friend discovered a photo on Instagram of a girl in Las Vegas who looked like Danica. Danica’s sister reposted it on her Facebook wall. Not long after she received a message from someone claiming to be Danica. This person used nicknames they had for each other and claimed to be in hiding. When she went to respond back, the Facebook account had been deleted.

Danica remains missing.
